Today is the first day of Spring! Here in North Carolina, we have had some beautiful Spring days already…and then followed up by some cold ones (even snow one morning!). There is something exciting about it officially being Spring!
I’m not sure why, but I like to wait until the calendar says its the first day of Spring to start thinking about the dreaded Spring Cleaning. I always put it off, even though I know I will feel a million times better after the house is cleaned up and refreshed. It’s time to purge the old, broken items in our home and just declutter the items we don’t use or just don’t like at this stage of our life. Just as the seasons change, I think the season of our life changes as well.
This season, our family is focusing on living simple, slowing down and getting rid of the “extra” in our life. This could mean extra toys that the kids don’t play with anymore, extra knick knacks around the house, extra clothes that don’t fit anymore or we don’t like that style anymore, or extra activities and responsibilities that aren’t truly important to growing and nurturing our family.
This past weekend the kids were away at my mom’s house. This was the perfect time to go through the house and pack up old clothes and toys that the kids don’t use anymore. This made a HUGE difference in the “feeling” in our house. I already felt calmer and could focus better. This of course is just the first step to decluttering our home.
I have started creating a plan that will go, room by room, decluttering the “extras”, cleaning (ugh), and then the fun part…we will begin painting some rooms, changing out flooring and updating the pretty details that make our house a home. More details and photos to come as we tackle this list!
How do you prepare for Spring and what is the theme for this season in your life?
