Planning a home improvement project can be very stressful if you have an unclear vision for your project and with all the endless inspiration that is available. mood boards are a helpful tool in discovering the look you are going for and keeps you focused on your project.
We are currently in the middle of our home’s exterior improvement project. Due to some pretty severe hail damage a couple of months back, we needed to get a new roof and make some other updates. We decided to focus on replacing the roof, painting the exterior of our house and updating the landscaping. To start our project, I created a mood board to figure out the vibe I wanted for our home’s exterior and to keep me from getting distracted by all the inspiration I found along the way.

Create a Pinterest board with images you like that relate to the project your are planning for. I suggest finding at least one image of a whole room view, a house exterior or full view of the area of your home that you are improving. Then, find a few images of potential colors you can pick from that give you the look and feeling that you want to give when your project is complete. Lastly, choose a few detailed pictures of products you would like to use to give the finishing touches to your project.
Once you have several images from each category, narrow them down to the ones that show the style, feeling and details that you absolutely love. Now, pull those images together and arrange them to make a mood board. You can use a graphic design app, like Canva or PicMonkey to make a digital mood board or you can simply print these images out and pin them to a memo board. Now you have a clear vision for your project that you can start taking action on.
Whether you are completing your next home improvement project yourself or hiring professionals, creating a mood board will help you plan your project, stay focused and let the professionals know what you want.
