In my former career life, I was a Social Worker, helping others to recognize their inner strengths and improve their life for themselves and their families. This was a very fulfilling, but demanding career and at some point I got burnt out. While I was on maternity leave with my second baby, I took that time to evaluate my life, my goals and simply try to figure out what was going to allow me to express my creative side and still help people in their daily lives. I spent some time to reflect on my life and to truly listen to what God wanted for me. I realized He was pointing me in a different direction that would give me my spirit back and a way that I could still provide for my family.
I talked with my husband about my ideas, dreams and goals. He was 100% supportive, but he knew he would have to push me a little for me to have enough confidence in myself to actually go for my dreams. I have always wanted to own a home décor retail store, but how was I ever going to accomplish that if I never took the steps to get there? So, in January 2015, I became the owner of Cottonwood Interiors. I opened my Etsy shop, TheCottonwoodHouse and signed up to be a vendor at a few local craft markets to get my name and product out there. This was the beginning of my new journey as a small business owner, wife, mother of two and a creative entrepreneur.
